Many, many years ago, Will Swaim handed a restaurant review back to me, telling me it was too much about the food. This puzzled me, but he explained that, in a paper like OC Weekly, the reading audience would much more prefer a story about the food, the narrative of the dining experience, and how the food fits into that. Reading about food with no other context? Boring, save to the reader who's most knowledgeable about the subject -- and they ain't looking to us for that information.

So I rewrote, and it was a better read, and all was good.

So how funny is it that OC Weekly writer and ¡Ask a Mexican! author Gustavo Arellano hid some thoughts about the changes at OC Weekly inside a restaurant review? Very.
